What ID.me is and How it Started
If you’re not familiar with the ID.me program and its benefits, here’s a little info to help you get acquainted with its services.
ID.me originated from a need to provide secure and efficient online identity verification, particularly for those with specific affiliations, such as military personnel. The company's founder and U.S. Army veteran, Blake Hall was inspired to create a better system after witnessing the cumbersome and potentially risky process of veterans having to share sensitive documents like their DD214 to prove their eligibility for discounts.
Initially, the company began as TroopSwap, a deals platform for the military community, and then evolved into Troop ID, focusing specifically on digital identity verification for military members and veterans. Over time, the company expanded its scope, rebranding as ID.me to serve a broader range of groups, including first responders, nurses, teachers, and government employees. The core mission of ID.me is to simplify and secure the process of proving one's identity online, allowing individuals to control their own data and access benefits and services more easily. This is particularly valuable for:
- Veterans and military members: To access benefits and discounts.
- First responders, nurses, and teachers: To verify their professional status.
- Individuals accessing government services: Such as unemployment benefits or tax services.
Reliable, Secure Identity Verification
For organizations, ID.me offers a reliable and secure way to verify the identities of their customers or users, reducing the risk of fraud and improving the efficiency of online transactions. This helps to protect against identity theft, and strengthens the security of online interactions.
